Don’t forget the Salesperson-101
What happens when you forget Salesperson-101. A business card (sometimes referred to as the calling card) is the salesperson-101. It should always be on a salesperson. This article recollects an incident when I was not carrying my business card on me.
Always carry your business card on you! As a sales manager and now as a business head, I tend to preach this Salesperson-101 to everyone who is interested.
Everyone in sales, pre-sales, any client-facing role, or an entrepreneur has heard or read about the Salesperson-101 in their journies. There are so many theories, articles, anecdotes, and success stories attributed to this Basics-101 concept.
Yet, during my visit to the Gym today, I did not have my business card on me.
And…this happens when you forget Salesperson-101
I started a conversation with a fellow “Gym-er”, whose visits almost overlap with mine. He is a Managing Director & Partner of a local firm and was a satisfied user of the software product of the business unit that I was responsible for. Thus fellow “gym-er” uses a competing product and was willing to look at our re-engineered product.
He presented his business card to me at the end of the conversation and asked me to have my team connect with him. I did not have my business card on me. This is what happens when you forget Salesperson-101. You never know when and where you will meet your next prospect or sale.
Even if the sale does not happen, I met a person who can potentially add tremendous value to our re-engineering effort. He has been in the industry for more than 15+ years.
Thanks to the digital world I shared my contacts, and connected him with my team upon reaching my hotel room, almost immediately.
I am writing this to remind me and anyone else interested in Salesperson-101.
Your business card should be always with you.
