Tata Nano is indeed dead if commercial success is the only yardstick. But, is Tata Nano really dead! I discuss my thoughts in this post.
Is Tata Nano really dead!
One unit of Tata Nano was produced by Tata Motors in the month of June 2018. And the press has a lot of commentary about Tata Nano’s end of the road. The headline, RIP Tata Nano caught my attention. Thus, motivating me to write this post.
31 design and 37 technology patents were filed on the journey of the development of Tata Nano. Because of these patents, innovations across a spectrum of industries are and will continue to happen. Thus, the soul of Tata Nano will live on.
The story of Tata Nano will also be remembered for:
- Shri Ratan N Tata’s risk-taking ability, value system, and motivational management. His zeal and steadfastness to remain with the Tata group’s ideals on this journey are noteworthy and unmatched.
- The resilience of the entire team1 responsible for building Tata Nano.
Entrepreneurs, leaders, and innovators will do great injustice should they read Tata Nano’s story wearing the lens of commercial success only.
1 Small Wonder: The Making of Nano is a book about the creation of the Tata Nano. I suggest that engineers, technologists, researchers, auto industry observers, etc. to read this book. I, also, hope that students and Tata employees will write more stories.
